The funeral was well-attended and Lucky made sure that the local media covered the event tastefully without any suggestions of foul play.
At the wake, after the funeral, the other 11 ranked gangsters made it official, they chose Lucky as their new boss and swore allegiance to him.
Lucky accepted their endorsement with the required bravado and promises to continue and prosper with Whitey’s plans and vision for the gang.
What exactly that meant, Lucky realised, he had no idea.

Miles away, in the Southern suburbs of Cape Town, down in his basement, Malik read the same article on his phone and came to the same conclusion as Stanley about what had happened to Whitey. Malik, just like Stanley, wondered if this was a good development, they wondered if Lucky would be easier to deal with than Whitey. “I guess anything would be better than having to deal with that treacherous snake,” thought Malik.
Elaine’s phone was ringing non-stop. Mercifully she did not have to answer it, she had appointed another personal assisting and between the two of them, they seem to be managing the daily barrage of calls for meeting requests, congratulations, advice, and all kinds of suggestions.
Elaine felt something new this morning after she awoke and had her coffee. She suddenly realised, as she began feeling overwhelmed with fear, that she now had to lead this province, she had to make decisions that would change people’s lives, she would have to make decisions that would most definitely not please the opposition parties and their followers, which were mostly white and privileged.

And then of course there was the small faction of privileged ANC supporters who had enjoyed the corrupt fruits of Black Empowerment since 1994, they were definitely not going to be pleased by some of the decisions she was going to make. She needed guidance from someone she could trust emphatically.
Shawn pulled into Johan’s driveway in his Toyota Corolla. It was a plain white Corolla, recent model, nothing fancy and very forgettable.
He met Johan in his study.
“Sup cuz,” Shawn greeted Johan
“Hey, cuz, great job out there, you did well, there’s a cash bonus for you in that bag over there.
Shawn laughed and said: “You shouldn’t have, but thanx cuz.”
“Are you okay?” Shawn could always tell when Johan was up to something, or when something was bothering him.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m just a bit tired, haven’t been sleeping much, there is still so much to do.”
“I figured as much,” said Shawn.
“How is Ian, when last have you seen or spoken to him?”
