Now, though, that he had won, how the hell was he going to sustain it and how was he going to fight the upcoming war with the ANC, just how was he going to do it, with absolutely no funding.

He sat pensively as he listened to Romance field more calls.

“Thank you for your call,” he heard her say again. “No, unfortunately Mr Frenchman is not available right now…. Yes, I will pass on the message and have him call you back… I’m sorry, can you repeat that please…. Elaine Pecker’s office? Thank you, I will pass on the message.”

Tony was not surprised to hear that Elaine was looking for him, he was a little surprised that it was so soon.

“Romance,” he shouted non-aggressively. Romance Kempstone was Tony’s long-serving personal assistant and had remained with him through all the ups and downs of his political career. He had always thought it was somewhat psychotic that someone would vote into power the very same person who had abused and suppressed them for hundreds of years.

Alex had always known that all it would take was a leader to unite the different Coloured sub-cultures.

He stared at the voting results on the telly. Transfixed at the numbers which showed the biggest loss his party had ever recorded in the Cape, and to his utter surprise and horror, the clear and obvious fact that Elaine Pecker and the United Coloured Party were now the undisputed rulers of the Cape Province.
