He raised his glass and said: “Thank you all for coming, lets all raise our glasses and congratulate the new political leader of our people and our beautiful Western Cape, Elaine Pecker.”

Everyone said cheers and downed their drinks in one gulp.

The tension eased a little.

“Lady and gentlemen,” Johan continued. “With apologies to Dr Martin Luther King, I have a dream… please allow me to share it with you.”

“The results of the election, which could not have been achieved without your help, is only the beginning. What I am going to share with you tonight will be the continuation of a well-thought out and sustainable plan to take us to the next election in four years’ time.

“And if you agree to join me and you agree to follow my plan, the main issue of the next election will be the secession of the Western Cape from the Republic of South Africa and the recognition of the Coloured people as the legitimate sovereign heirs to the land and culture that is the Western Cape.”

The room went completely silent, while everyone knew and understood exactly what Johan had said and meant, they also knew that only a madman could think like that.

But they all also knew instinctively that the only person who could actually successfully orchestrate such an unbelievable outcome, was in-fact Johan Baatjies.
