He picked her up at 19:30 sharp as arranged.

She lived in a small flat in Mouille Point, on the outskirts of the city. Stanley took her to On the Rocks, a small, intimate French restaurant literally on the beach in Blaauwberg. She was impressed by the luxurious car he drove and the way he dressed. Stanley had consummate style and the dark Armani suit off-set his natural good looks superbly.

He was somewhat startled when Aletta still sported the beehive do and wore a rather frumpy, well what could best be described as. a frock. She wore no make-up, but she had ample natural beauty instead. Stanley’s expert eye did not miss the voluptuous valleys and peaks under the frock.

Aletta found the dinner a hugely pleasant experience and she even allowed herself an extra glass of wine than her usual limit of one. By the time they were into the dessert she was giggling at Stanley’s silly jokes. She did not object when he suggested she try a whiskey Dom Pedro. It can’t be so bad if it’s a dessert, she thought.

She was decidedly giddy when Stanley walked her up to her flat and did not give it a second thought to invite him in for coffee. However, even before she could put the kettle on, Stanley gently took her into his arms and kissed her slow and gently. She was caught off guard, but instantly her body was flooded with oxytocin and she welcomed the kiss hungrily. Despite herself, she found her Calvinist restrictions being unlocked expertly by Stanley’s roving hands and tongue.

They made love for several hours and she had almost passed out as wave after wave of orgasm crashed over her body and mind. She had no idea that a man could do the things that Stanley did to her. Especially the thing he did with his tongue between her legs. Her guilt was quickly doused when Stanley followed up his initial conquest with roses and chocolates in the weeks to follow. It wasn’t long before she wore her hair down, changed her wardrobe and even bought her first G-string.

Shawn discovered that Stanley owned an Italian restaurant in Simon’s Town. It was a small trattoria close to the naval base and it specialised in South Italian cuisine. The restaurant was only open three days a week, but there was always something going on inside, Shawn’s contact had informed him. He was also told that Stanley was impossible to approach, but that he had a weakness for women. The best way to deliver the message to Stanley would be via personal courier, female courier, Shawn decided.

Shawn knew that even an attractive woman would not just be able to walk up to Stanley without drawing the attention of his omnipresent bodyguards. So, he visited the restaurant and noticed that the waiters were all attractive and female. Students in their early twenties he guessed.

After his dinner at the restaurant, he sat in his car parked across the street and waited for closing time. At 01:00 the waiters left the premises together, however the one he had chosen was not among them. He panicked a bit, knowing that he would have to get the message to Stanley before the end of the week. But just as he was about to start his car to follow one of the other waiters, she appeared and he saw the reason why she was late.

She was charged with locking up the building. She turned off the lights and appeared from a side alley. As she entered the street she looked left and right, before crossing the road and walking directly passed Shawn’s car. He followed her in his rear-view mirror and saw that she was heading for the bus stop. He assumed that she was going to catch the last bus into the city.

He got out of the car and casually walked up to the bus stop. Sure enough, 01:15, the bus was on time. He boarded right behind her and paid his fare. He sat two chairs in front of her, making sure that he could observe her from the corner of his eye.

As the bus entered the city bowl area, he noticed her preparing to leave, before she got up, he got up, and once standing, he pretended to wipe some fluff off his jacket, allowing her to walk past him while simultaneously giving her the impression that this was his stop also.

Outside, the streets were deserted. A homeless person cuddled up in a large brown empty bag, usually used to store potatoes, and rolled over to one side as the bus pulled away from the bus stop. Shawn crossed the street and noticed that the waitress had received a call on her mobile phone. She was smiling. Probably her lover checking that she was home safe, Shawn thought.

She was deep in conversation and did not notice Shawn following her to the entrance of her flat and taking in the number of her apartment at the same time.

She put the mobile phone away and opened the gate. Shawn rushed in just before the automatic gate slammed shut.

“Hi,” he said to her, smiling in an effort not to alarm her. The waitress was immediately afraid for her life, yet she realised this man was familiar somehow. “Don’t be afraid,” Shawn said. “I don’t want to hurt you, I was in the restaurant earlier, you served my table, I had the lasagna.”

She seemed to relax a little, making the recollection, but she was still alarmed about why he had followed her.

“I know what you must be thinking,” he added as if reading her thoughts. “But it’s nothing sinister I assure you.”

“What do you want from me?”

“All I want you to do is to deliver an envelope, a letter to your boss.”

“To Stanley? Why don’t you deliver it yourself?”

“I think you know how difficult that would be.” Look,” Shawn said quickly, not wanting to break the momentum. He reached into his coat and took out a letter as well as several R100 bills.

“Here is R1000 for your trouble, tomorrow all you have to do is to hand this envelope to Stanley, just tell him a stranger asked you to give it to him.”

“How will you know that I have handed it over?”

“Because someone will be in the restaurant to witness it, and you will be given another R1000 rand after.”

“It sounds a bit fishy,” she said.

“I guess it does, but look if you don’t want to make a quick R2000 for really doing nothing, I could ask one of the other waiters…” he let the thought linger for a moment before saying. “I am sorry to have bothered you.” he turned and placed his hand on the gate.

“Wait,” she said. “I’ll do it.”
